Volunteering

Since 2006 we have planted more than 3000 trees of native species and there are several communities and populations as well as individuals in the area that want to join our effort.
To do our job we have the support of students in biology from the University San Antonio Abad of Cusco and volunteers who for periods of time reside in Palmaceda. Students from several Universities also carry out environmental projects and environmental volunteering.

Flora and fauna monitoring

Manu is the biggest tropical reserve of the world, it is the only place in the entire world that has tree ecosystems perfectly differentiated: the Puna – a high-altitude, tundra-like area characterized by pale yellow ichu grass, isolated blue lakes and tassel-eared llamas; the cloud forest – a mysterious world bathed in constant mist and inhabited by brilliant-red Cock of the rocks, spectacled bears and scores of dripping tree ferns; and the lowland rainforest – home of the giant black caiman, giant otter, 13 species of monkeys and over 1.000 species of birds (10% of the world’s total). The Manu Biosphere Reserve has largely been protected through the countries both by its remote location and by the presence of native tribes. Manu currently supports four native ethnic groups – two of which are still uncontested - and protects 4.646.564 acres (1.881.200 hectares) of land. One half the size of Switzerland, Manu is perhaps the most species-rich protected area to be found anywhere on earth.

As a volonteer interested in this area, you will assist in creating an inventory of flora and fauna of our Reserve.

Wildlife Photography

As an amateur or professional photographer, you will enjoy our volonteer team, during which you will visit all our Reserve trails and secret spots, fascinating and largely parts of our rainforest. Photography is important  for us to answer certain biological questions, to achieve, as well as to illustrate our research, education, community development, and ultimately our biodiversity conservation outcomes for the benefit of policy makers, our donors, and our followers.
