We conclude the retreat days and begin the expedition towards the lowland tropical jungle. Day 8: Entry into the Reserved Zone of Manu National Park

After breakfast, we board our boat to enter the Restricted Zone of Manu National Park. We will take the official photograph next to the traditional wooden sign marking the entrance to the park and make a mandatory stop for entry registration at the Limonal Ranger Station. From here, we will begin our navigation upstream along the mighty Manu River. During this journey, the jungle becomes more pristine and the chances increase of spotting taricaya turtles, caimans basking in the sun, and large mammals such as tapirs or the impressive jaguar resting on the river beaches. In the afternoon, we will arrive at the lodge to settle in and take a brief introductory walk.

  • Accommodation: Jaguar Lodge.

Day 9: Deep Exploration - Cocha Salvador and Cocha Otorongo

We will devote the day to exploring the deepest treasures of the Manu. At dawn, we will take an excursion on a silent catamaran across Cocha Salvador. In these calm waters, we may observe the resident family of giant river otters fishing, as well as enormous black caimans and aquatic birds. Afterwards, we will hike through the dense primary forest towards Cocha Otorongo. There, we will climb a 15-meter-high observation tower for a panoramic view of the treetop canopy. Along the walk, we will follow the tracks of primates and wild pigs (huanganas). To close the day, we will take a fascinating night walk in search of tree frogs, tarantulas, and insects.

  • Accommodation: Jaguar Lodge.

Day 10: Departure from Manu and Shintuya Hot Springs

We begin the descent along the Manu River at first light, watching the riverbanks closely for one last chance to spot spectacular wildlife, such as a puma walking through the water. We will continue navigating until reaching the community of Shintuya to relax the body in its natural hot springs.

  • Accommodation: Shintuya Lodge.
